Art happenings this summer and beyond:
Carmel Art Association
Sheila has been juried into the prestigous Carmel Art Association, Carmel's oldest and largest gallery. It features the work of professional local artists. She will be one of four new artists showing in June in the "New Member" exhibit. The opening reception is June 10, 2017 from 5-7 pm. The gallery is open 10 am to 5 pm daily and is located on Dolores between 5th and 6th in Carmel.
Carmel Valley Art Association
Sheila is now a featured artist of the Carmel Valley Art Association. She exhibits many of her paintings and prints in the Gallery which is located at 2 Chambers Lane (in the Village Center), Carmel Valley and is open 11 am - 5 pm daily.
Sheila shows her pastel paintings and prints in Venture Gallery. The gallery is open daily from 10 am - 6 pm and is located in the Portola Plaza Hotel near the historic Monterey Wharf.
Pacific Grove Art Center
Sheila's studio is in this historic art center, which is located at 568 Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove. Her studio is open during Art Center Receptions, Art Walks, and by appointment. Art Walks and Receptions are held on the first Friday of each month from 7-9 pm. Sheila will be joining fellow artists Marybeth Rinehart, Cheryl Kampe, Annette Chaplan, and Joy Colangelo in a group show entitled Pastel, Paper, Paint, and Pattern. The exhibit will be on display in the Elmarie Dyke Gallery in the Pacific Grove Art Center from July 7 to August 24, 2017. The opening reception is July 7 from 7-9 pm.Sheila also donates paintings annually to the Center's Miniature and Patrons' shows.
Monterey Museum of Art
Sheila donates annually to the Monterey Museum of Art Miniatures show. She was honored this year to be asked to create a larger work. Sheila was one of 15 top artists selected by the museum to donate a "Big Ticket" painting. The exhibit was on display from October 7, 2016 - January 13, 2017 and was a major fund raiser for the museum. Sheila also has notecards and giclee prints for sale in the museum gift shop.
Sheila's painting, "Twilight on the Slough," was accepted into the Triton Museum of Art's 2014 Statewide Painting Competition and Exhibition. The Triton Museum is located in Santa Clara, California, and the gift store sells Sheila's notecards and prints of her paintings.
Carmel Bach Festival
The Art of Music raffle helps support this well known festival. Sheila donates an oil painting every year for the exhibit which hangs in the Marjorie Evans Gallery at the Sunset Center, Carmel, California. The 2017 festival will be held July 15-29.
Monterey County Artists' Studio Tour
The 2017 Studio Tour will be held on September 23rd and 24th from 11 am to 5 pm.
Arts Council for Monterey County
Two of Sheila's paintings, "The White Barn" and "Moss Landing," were selected for the Arts Council's 2016 exhibit at the Monterey County Government Center. Sheila's painting, "Twilight on Monterey Bay," was selected as one of twelve art works published in the Arts Council for Monterey County's 2015 Calendar, "Celebrating Monterey County." She donated a pastel painting, "Garrapata, Big Sur," to the 2017 Monterey County Champions of the Arts Gala auction.
John Natsoulas Center for the Arts
Sheila is invited annually to participate in the "California Landscape Painters Exhibition" at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis, Calilfornia. Sheila's painting, "Spring Storm," was on the cover of the book, California Landscape Painters, 2010. California Landscape Painters, 2011 includes Sheila's painting "Overlooking the Valley" and the 2012 catalog features her "White Barn" painting. "Spring Storm, Coastal Range" was included in the 2013 catalog and "Coastal Range Ranch" in the 2014 catalog.
American Artist Magazine Studios Edition
Sheila's studio was featured in the 2009 Studios Edition of American Artist Magazine. The full page story has photos of her studio and includes tips for organizing a studio/gallery space. The Artist Daily Blog (August 27, 2010) also highlighted her studio.
Sheila has been juried into the Women Artists of the West as an associate member. She is also a member of the California Art Club, the Pastel Society of the West, and the Pacific Grove Art Center.
